How to Spot Fake Filament (and Verify Your TerraEco Roll)

Updated 2026-09-29 · TerraEco Store

Where the codes are

The outer SN is printed on the box. The 8-character inner verification code is on the label inside the pack, on the spool. You need both — that pairing is created at packing time and can't be faked by copying a box.

Red flags of fake filament

  • Price far below market with no credible explanation
  • No verifiable serial — or a serial that never verifies
  • Packaging differences: no vacuum seal, no desiccant, blurry labels
  • Seller can't name their source or dodges the question
  • Reviews mentioning clogs, brittleness or odd diameter

What fakes do to your printer

Counterfeit filament is usually off-spec mystery plastic: inconsistent diameter grinds extruders and clogs hotends, unknown additives print at the wrong temperatures, and the fumes are anybody's guess. The roll costs less; the failed prints and worn parts cost more.

Verify in 10 seconds

  • Open the Verify page and log in (or register in one step)
  • Enter the outer SN and the inner code
  • A genuine, unclaimed roll instantly credits 20 points to your account

If verification fails

An unknown SN means the box was never packed by us — treat it as suspect and contact support with photos. A mismatched inner code usually means a typo; you have 5 attempts before a short lockout. An already-claimed roll was verified before. This is normal for second-hand spools. It still proves the roll is genuinely ours; only the points are spent. Buying used? Ask for a verification screenshot first.
